An aerial vehicle rotating in gyroscopic fashion about one of its axes has an optical system which scans an area below the vehicle in determined relation to vehicle rotation. A sensing device is provided to sense the physical condition of the area of scan and optical means are associated to direct the physical intelligence received from the scan area to the sensing means. Means are provided to incrementally move the optical means through a series of steps to effect sequential line scan of the area being viewed keyed to the rotational rate of the vehicle

COASTAL ALABAMA RECREATIONAL LIVE BAIT STUDY

Recreational fishing is major industry and reasonably priced, high quality bait plays an important role in sustaining recreational fishing's popularity. This study provides a summary of Alabama's coastal live bait market including information on previous live bait studies and results of two surveys on the live bait shrimp, bull minnow and other bait markets. Results indicated there were periods of supply shortages, dealer willingness to pay more for shrimp that live longer and a dealers' use of multiple supply sources. Lost income was reported from not having live bait shrimp available for sale at peak demand periods. The economics of shrimp mariculture needs to be examined to determine its feasibility in augmenting the current supply of shrimp to the live bait industry.Resource /Energy Economics and Policy,

Evaluating the social acceptability of an application-blocking-based contingency management intervention

Many adults and youth in the United States engage in multiple high risk health behaviors. Research has historically suggested that if these behaviors can be changed, major health conditions could be changed at both the individual and population levels. Contingency Management is a well-validated method of changing health behaviors, however the costs associated with CM prevent it from being widely available. Smartphone applications are becoming increasingly popular in the healthcare sector, and most American have a smartphone with apps they find enjoyable and distracting. A potential avenue for CM dissemination is the development of a smartphone program that utilizes the pre-established reward value of smartphone apps as a tool for change. The following study is exploratory research designed to assess the acceptability of this concept, called Re-Connect. This concept proposes to block apps users spend large amounts of time on, with unlocking access to those apps made contingent upon meeting the user\u27s health goals. Out of the sample surveyed (N = 146) 63.01% reported that they would be likely to use Re-Connect, and 67.81% reported that they would be likely to recommend it. Participants also rated their likelihood of use across three pairs of feature variants: Re-Connect sets goals vs. user sets goals, Re-Connect chooses apps vs. user chooses apps, and unlocking apps for a period of time vs. the entire day. Participants favored more personal control for both goal setting and app choice and found unlocking for the day to be more acceptable than for a specified period of time

Developing an On-Line Interactive Health Psychology Module.

On-line teaching material in health psychology was developed which ensured a range of students could access appropriate material for their course and level of study. This material has been developed around the concept of smaller 'content chunks' which can be combined into whole units of learning (topics), and ultimately, a module. On the basis of the underlying philosophy that the medium is part of the message, we considered interactivity to be a key element in engaging the student with the material. Consequently, the key aim of this development was to stimulate and engage students, promoting better involvement with the academic material, and hence better learning. It was hoped that this was achieved through the development of material including linked programmes and supporting material, small Java Scripts and basic email, forms and HTML additions. This material is outlined as are some of the interactive activities introduced, and the preliminary student and tutor experience described
